USB Flash Drives - A Perfect Place for Computer Viruses to Hide

Recently, Trend Micro, Inc., an antivirus company, has carried a survey on the places where computer viruses tend to hide. It was noticed that the greatest number of computers are infected with viruses from the portable USB flash drives which are a NAND-type flash memory data storage device integrated with a USB connector.

In February, 58 computers were infected by the infected programs from the USB flash drives. This number has almost doubled in March, meanwhile in April 110 cases of the infections were observed. In May 150 USB flash drives were infected.

As the company states, the most malicious program which attacks computers is called Mal Otorun1. The program first infects data storage devices. Then it copies a virus to any flash drive which is connected to the computer.

In order to protect your computers from the maliciuos programs, the companies or USB flash users should regularly clean their storage devices. Besides, people should carefully choose computers from which data should be copied into the USB flashes.

I have this as well. The thing is...I've been using the same flash drive for awhile now. And lately, I've been just using it on my laptop. I haven't connected to another computer in a month or so. I have done multiple virus scans but the virus is still there. (Also...I'm not sure if the two are connected, but my laptop's internet have been screwy while my brother's computer's internet isn't - we're connected to the same modem) Any help would be great! Thanks

Hello, Jeet. I think you have to scan your memory stick with the antivirus program. The virus should be removed after you do that. I hope you do have an antivirus in your pc. you could have caught Mal Otorun from another computer.
