The truth is that in the world we live in, there are many unscrupulous characters, and, unfortunately, the same can be said about the online world. Everybody who has a computer at home is at risk. If it was as simple as simply getting your insurance company to pay for a new computer every time something happened to your old one, then home computer security wouldn't be an issue. The harsh reality of the situation is that home computer security is an extremely important topic. The majority of home computer owners are everyday people who are being targeted each day. It is not only your home computer that is a target, your life and yours family life is at a risk. If intruders can get into your computer, they can literally get into your life.

The question that can be asked is: why is your home computer an extremely popular target for intruders and hackers? The reason is simple because intruders want what you have, which is the information stored on your home computer. They especially are after personal information like your account details, bank information, passwords and pin numbers. The bad news is that intruders are also after your computers resources, such as your internet connection and processor. The purpose for them obtaining these resources is that they use them to attack other computers online. Home computers are a target because home computers are not very secure and are easy to get into. The downfall of most home computer owners is that they don't take computer security seriously. It is in every computer home owners own interest to take home computer security seriously, as if you know the dangers involved, it is not clever to simply sit back and wait for your computer and life to be destroyed.

The risks that home computer owners face are endless and it is imperative that you are aware of them. Worms, trojans and viruses are extremely dangerous as well as other damaging software. Each one of these has its own set of problems that could cause your computer extreme harm. You could also be hacked, cracked, robbed, virus infected; scammed, spied on, spoofed, impersonated, phished or you could even be the victim of identity theft. If you are not the direct victim of identity theft in today's world, your child may become a victim of the new child identify theft epidemic. This should all be enough to scare anybody and the truth is there are many more ways for people to harm you online. Besides all of this is the risk parent's face for their children with regard to cyberbullying, chatroom dangers and the internet dangers for children.

  3. Use an effective firewall.
  4. Always use good and effective antivirus software.
  5. Understand that any electronic mail can be forged easily.

  7. Don't download anything you aren't sure about.
  8. Be careful when you are reading emails with attachments.
  9. Do not simply click on links that you don't know.
  10. Use strong passwords for everything and be aware of password security.

It is vital to be aware of the factor that securing your home computer is not a trivial task there is numerous amounts of information to know. It is extremely important to know that each and every home computer is at a risk. Home computer security is an issue that should never be taken lightly as there are too many risks involved. Every home computer owner needs to remember that intruders and hackers are extremely sophisticated at what they do. They are prepared for things that are much bigger than your home computer. It is easier for an intruder or hacker to get into your home computer than it is for them to steal candy from a baby.
