Should you turn your computer off?

It is very strange that when it comes to certain questions with regard to computer security some of the questions actually have more than one answer. The majority of people will notice that each person that you know has a different view on the question: Should you turn your computer off? You may have a friend who believes keeping a computer on all night will do the computer more good than harm. You may have an uncle who says if you don't put your computer off it won't last as long. One of the arguments for leaving your computer on all the time is that if you do turn it off, it may damage the components of your computer. Sometimes various parts of your computer can get very hot and when you turn your computer off it tends to cool down. It is also reasonable to acknowledge the factor that hard drives and fans are the only moving parts of a computer in general. It is also interesting to take into account the factor that all mechanical devices in general will eventually wear out regardless of if you turn your computer off or not. If you are using Windows there is a configuration setting which allows your computer to turn off automatically under certain conditions. You can even set your computer to turn off at set times if you prefer your computer to be turned off.

Some computer security experts claim that leaving your computer on when you are not using it is an extreme waste of energy. Some people tend to believe that it's bad to repeatedly put a computer through the entire start up process. It is also acknowledged by many computer users that the start up process could actually cause a power strike which could potentially blow out a specific component. This is extremely rare but the possibility still does exist. There are some computer security experts who claim that the main dangers for computers are heat, dust and moisture. If you turn the computer off it reduces the risk of all of these things.

There are some people who leave their computers on for literally weeks at a time and claim that all that is needed is good solid hardware. Some computer users who run both Linux and Windows claim that they leave their computers on all the time. The only time that they claim they reboot is when they are switching between Linux and Windows. Some people worry about the electricity usage and claim that you can save thousands by simply switching your computer off. There are so many different theories and debates on the question: Should you turn your computer off? That it appears that there is no wrong or right answer. Whichever one you chose to do it is highly suggested to look at the advantages and disadvantages of both and then to make a decision.
