Denial Of Service Attack Hits Twitter

Social networking sites are becoming more and more common. People are making use of social networking sites for a variety of reasons with the inclusion of marketing businesses and staying in touch with friends all over the world. People are making use of Twitter on a daily basis, where they are able to share updates with their friends which pertain to what they are doing. Even though Twitter updates contain a character limit, it is fast, simple and effective for everyone to use and update. It would be an extreme inconvenience for many people, if the Twitter site were to go down. The bad news is that the Twitter site was down and hit by a vulnerability exploit, early Thursday morning.Twitter.jpg

It was only a couple of days ago when Twitter was unavailable to its users worldwide. Twitter is currently back online and functioning again. This is the first time Twitter has been affected by such a vulnerability and experienced downtime, since the last downtime incident which took place in May this year. That was due to a small software error that took place on the popular site, but the error was rectified in due course. Many Twitter users were extremely angry when they weren't able to log into their Twitter accounts and do what they needed to do.

All Twitter users were affected regardless of what operating system or browser they were using. Nobody was immune to the Twitter vulnerability no matter how brilliant or secure their machines were. This was due to the factor that the problem was on Twitters side so there was no way around it. Twitter users could notify each other via Yahoo Messenger that Twitter was down. Some of the files of Yahoo Messenger may include: 00000663.ewi, 00000177.ewi  as well as ypager.exe.

Twitter was down due to a denial of service attack, which probably means that someone out there catapulted the attack with malicious purposes and intentions. It's a relief to know that Twitter was allegedly down for only two and a half hours. Twitter only resumed normal functioning on the weekend. It was allegedly reported that this vulnerability exploit was all due to an attempt to silence a certain Georgian Blogger. Hopefully, in time the truth will be revealed.Twitter_logo.jpg

Twitter did what they could in order to ensure the safety of users accounts with regards to the denial of service attack. The Co Founder of Twitter Biz Stone, had the following to say: Attacks such as this are malicious efforts orchestrated to disrupt and make unavailable services such as online banks, credit card payment gateways, and in this case, Twitter for intended customers or users". Users can be safely assured that Twitter is taking all the necessary actions in order to safe guard their site and their users. This is evident in another comment made by Biz Stone, which was:""We are defending against this attack now and will continue to update our status blog as we continue to defend and later investigate."
