Microsoft seems to be wide awake when it comes to releasing, patches, fixes and updates for computer security vulnerabilities. The moment a vulnerability is confirmed and brought to the attention of the public; Microsoft does what it can to find methods of helping people using their software, feel safer and more secure. Sometimes the method that Microsoft adopts in order to provide constant reassurance to their users, comes in the form of an update. In fact, an update was recently released to resolve the Issue in Microsoft Visual Studio. If you don't use Microsoft's Visual Studio, and are not sure exactly what it is, let me provide you with some additional information. Microsoft Visual Studio is basically a software development environment that is geared towards writing computer programs in certain computer languages. These computer programming languages includes C++, C# as well as Visual Basic.NET. Some of the files of Microsoft Visual Studio include: AcmeVB.dll, Acme.CustomFiltersVB.dll, CLAIMS~1.DLL as well as Class.vb. The vulnerability in Visual Studio relates to the ATL which is the Active Template Library. If this Microsoft Visual Studio error is exploited in the correct manner, the risks are very high that online attackers will be able to bypass sensitive and confidential security features. There are also risks that attackers will be able to gain access to all your confidential information as well as actively compromise the application making use of the Active Template Library. There are versions of the Active Template Library within Microsoft Visual Studio that are vulnerable, so this obviously poses a big computer security risk. As if that is not enough, the execution of arbitrary code could also take place.
Table 1. Security update fixes these versions. Now for the good news, the update released in order to fix this vulnerability can be applied to any Windows based computer, even if Visual Studio is not one of the programs that you have installed on your machine. If you are one of the many Microsoft users that make use of automatic updates, you should have received this update automatically. Other Visual Studio users, who don't utilize the automatic update feature, need to find the update for this vulnerability and install it manually. Once you've updated your system you should be able to enjoy a safe and secure Microsoft as well as Microsoft Visual Studio experience. |
