The story of WiniSoft (aka WiniGuard) has not yet ended. The developers of this rogueware family aren't going to stop bombarding the unaware computer users with their rogue anti-spyware and anti-virus applications. And even though we can't stop these cyber criminals from creating new programs (well, most often they simply change the name of the program, not the program itself...), we can at least inform you about each new creation. Therefore, be ready to meet SoftBarrier - yet another fake security program. SoftBarrier (also known as Soft Barrier, Soft-Barrier), similarly to its siblings, may enter your system through malicious pop-ups, banners or fake video codec that are infected with Trojans. They manage to secretly sneak into the victims system and drop other computer infections, including SoftBarrier. All this, of course, is done without the knowledge and consent of the system user. Is there some other way that the rogue uses in order to drop itself on the victimized systems? Of course, there is. SoftBarrier has its own website s o f t b a r r i e r . c o m. And even though the "download" link didn't work at the moment of my research, it doesn't mean that it won't work in future. Therefore, I'd highly recommend you not to try your click and not to visit the above mentioned website. According to the information about the website provided by whois.com, the registrant is Gilbert M Sebastien, located at 8, rue Marceau, Issy-les-Moulineaux. However, according to the IP address of the site - 83.233.30.66 - the real birthplace of the malware is in Sweden. These completely different results show that cyber criminals are doing their best to stay undetected and perform their malicious activities successfully. SoftBarrier and other malicious applications in the WiniSoft rogueware family perform similar tactics to get unsuspecting computer users to purchase the full version of the program. Once on the system, SoftBarrier will perform a scan of your computer system and immediately start displaying fake system notifications and warning messages that your system is infected. Below you can see a screenshot of this fake computer scan: Image 1. SoftBarrier: fake system scan After the scan, all you have to do is buy the full version of SoftBarrier in order to remove the huge number of purportedly found malware. However, don't get trapped because this rogue anti-spyware application won't resolve any security problems on your PC. However, if you have become a victim of this attack and are now fighting SoftBarrier, click here for a complete list of instructions on how to remove it manually.
