We ended last week with the warning against Ghost Antivirus - a new rogue anti-spyware application coming from the same family as Internet Antivirus Pro. Let's now begin a new week with the further analysis of this malicious program. What should be known about its website? Is it really malicious and drops rogueware on the infected systems? As I've already warned you on Friday, Ghost Antivirus can be dropped onto a victimized system either with the help of Trojan applications, or downloaded directly from its website g h o s t a n t i v i r u s . c o m. This is the site that I had visited and clicked on the "download" button in order to have the program on my PC and to analyze it. Take a look at the screenshot of the Ghost Antivirus website: Image 1. Ghost Antivirus website According to the information provided by whois.com, the registrant of this website is Michell Gregory, located at 56/2 Sun str., Dallas. However, according to the IP address of the site - 93.174.95.194 - the real birthplace of the malware is in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. These completely different results show that cyber criminals are doing their best to stay undetected and perform their malicious activities successfully. Once installed and active, Ghost Antivirus begins its malicious activities. It starts performing fake system scans that generate falsified results and claim that your PC is infected with lots of parasites. And then you'll be definitely prompted to purchase a full version of the program and remove all purportedly found parasites. Here you can get acquainted with the Ghost Antivirus purchase site: Image 2. Ghost Antivirus registration site As this application is really malicious and can damage your entire system, it's of high importance to stay cautious when browsing the web. Don't visit unknown and unreliable websites; only use well-known and approved security software. All this may prevent Ghost Antivirus from entering your system. Don't forget to read my next article with a video and analysis of Ghost Antivirus installation file. |
