A ‘Dirty Dancing’ Game Rolled Out on Facebook
After travelling back in time to the legendary "Lost City of Gold" - El Dorado, with Adventure World, and having a drink in a virtual bar with Shaker, Facebook users are now given the opportunity to warm up a little bit with the game "Dirty Dancing".
Based on the "Dirty Dancing" movie from 1987, the game has been thus created as to resemble the 80's and the film, as well. Its inventors have taken advantage of the fact that the movies has almost 11 million fans on Facebook.
The action takes place in Kellerman's Catskills resort. Filled with "Romance Waves", "watermelon" currency, dance competitions and different ways to entertain your "guests", the game is very easy-to-play and fun. There are numerous items to choose from and the players are guided by "balloon speech" for their convenience. Users can also take pictures of their resorts and keep them in an album.
"We are capitalizing on new platforms to drive additional, incremental revenues for our successful brands - and Dirty Dancing, with its incredibly strong Facebook following, was a natural fit for extension into social gaming. We view this as a clear opportunity to further monetize one of our most popular brands and we will continue to identify and develop innovative brand extensions as we explore the emerging platforms of the digital marketplace.", says Lionsgate's president of digital media, Curt Marvis.
Even the Wall Street Journal blog - Speakeasy, have posted about the new Dirty Dancing game. The author of the article, Sarah Seltzer, have expressed her opinion that "purist "Dirty Dancing" fans [like myself] can't help but wonder what the film's integrity-loving main characters would think about this game glamorizing Kellerman's resort as a place where fun is achieved via commerce, even if it's fake commerce." She, however adds, "On the other hand, once the irresistible music started, it might be hard to tear Baby and Johnny and their generations of fans away from the virtual dance floor. ".
Unfortunately, the game has been unavailable for the last couple of hours and users are unhappy about not being able to try it out.

The ones who have managed to do that previously, seem to be pleased.

What you can do if you are a Dirty Dancing fan, is to wait for the game to become available again and see if you would like it!
